genre case studies

Final destination opening sequence (the credits)
The first Final Destination really sets the mood of how the audience should be throughout the film, the effects throughout the scene really suit the genre of the film. The shadows, are the most effective representation of the horror film, they look creepy, the way they are hanging and swinging, it feels like a threat to me being part of the audience, also the idea that the opening sequence is in a teens room, I personally think that this denotates the way that mystery and myths work, as you are oblivious that something is there, as they are hidden beneath shadows or hiding. I also think that it looks very effective when the camera is on an object that a name comes up, which has something to do with that object, for example a hanging toy will stand for an actor that dies from hanging in the film. Another effective part of this opening sequence is the background is not the same as most other opening sequences, the background sound for final destination is an interview on the television, the man being interviewed is talking about death, and how people don’t expect to die or plan to die, that death itself has a plan for each and every person. I think this is really effective and completely sets the mood for the audience. This is something I will use, or put forward as an idea for our opening sequence for ‘Season Greetings’. I really think that the opening sequence to the first Final Destination opening sequence links to the opening sequence of ‘Season Greetings’ , because for half of our opening sequence, the scene is in a little girls room, were the we shadow the toys and show credits for different object. But the aim for this part of the opening sequence we aim to make the room for a little girl look scary, which will set the mood.
